Cask at the Brunswick Inn, Derby crawl, 11/02/22. Black with a good sized lasting tan crown. Nose is chocolate, toffee, dark malts, brown bread, mellow roast. Taste comprises roast malts, cocoa powder, faint liquorice, charr, dried fruit rinds. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light drying close. Ok stout .. perhaps a touch thin and lacking some depth for a 6% job.

Had this many times over the years at Brunswick, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish brown with minimal head but good lacing and low carbonation. The nose is mainly malts with hints of coffee and alcoholic strength. Fruitiness is the initial impression in the mouth, before vanilla, raisins, and hints of liquorice and chocolate come through. Finish is fruity. Very nice and alarmingly easy to drink, but hard to categorise (I’m not sure it’s a stout).
