A splendid dark mild. One of Roger Protz's 300 beers to try before you die and well worthy of an entry in that book. Pint of draught in the Railway Tavern, Chelmsford.

Bottle at home and I overchilled it. There's a lot going on for a low abv with well balanced malt and hops to give a great mouthfeel. I like it!

500ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo - thanks a lot for yet another Mild!]. Opaque, quasi black colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Earthy, toasty, dark malty and leafy, minimally fruity and nutty aroma, a touch of plum and blackberry. Taste is sweet-ish, toasty, minimally chocolately, dark malty, yeasty fruity and fruity hoppy, minimally earthy, leafy and nutty, hints of chocolate, blackberry, plum. Creamy-watery texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, fine, mildly prickly carbonation. Quite rich and intense - very nice!

Thin tan head left a frothy cover on a rich mahogany coloured still body. Liquorice, toffee & malt aroma. Medium bodied, smooth over the palate thinning out to leave a clean back. Malt, liquorice, toffee, biscuit & berry tastes with a sweet fruity finish leaving a tangy taste in mouth. Excellent Mild!
