Brown 500ml bottle, best before July 2010, drank and reviewed April 2010. Poured twice into a Gordon’s Thislr shaped glass. Deep dark brown/reddy colour with a good thick cream coloured head. The head produced some good lacing and managed to stay through the tasting. Semi-sweet malty aroma, biscuits more than toast or bread, a light burntness/roasty feel to the smell. The taste is half malt, half bitter hop (Fuggles and Progress are used). There is a tangy citrus (pink grapefruit?) feel as well. Well carbonated, the alcohol can be felt but it doesn’t rule the mouthfeel because the body is fairly rich and creamy. Pleasant but no world beater.

50cl bottle, Alko. Pours amber, reddish color. Aroma is nice roasted malty with a hint of fruits in it. Flavor is sweet malty and fruity, some caramel and in the finish honey. Not so bitter aftertaste as I expected, but overall a very nice ale.

Very dark-brown beer with velvet-like beige head. Aroma is complex: sweet, dried fruits and roasted malts. Flavour is similar than aroma and aftertaste is interesting "dry-sweetness". Nice and balanced beer to drink. Highgate Old Ember is interesting beer with nuancees many beer styles, but something is still missing to raise this beer into the top.

Bottled, thanks oh6gdx! Dark nut brown, small creamy head. Appley aroma with faint toastiness. Sweet and fruity with mushy, un-firm mouthfeel. Some syrup and molasses, metallic finish. Poorly structured.

Bottled (BB 09/2008)
Dark ruby color, beautiful creamy beige head. Aroma of chocolate, dark malts and licorice with hints of fudge. Front is quite roasted with coffeish dark malts and some English hops. Finish is softer with hops and sweet notes - at first didn’t think that it is honey, but after beer warms up, honeyish sweetness becomes stronger. Enjoyable ale for winter, but certainly I would appreciate it more as bottle conditioned.
