Late last year Goldfinger Brewing Company (Downers Grove, IL) debuted an exciting collaborative brewing project called American Zoigl. It started as a pair of beers made with our mutual lager buds Live Oak Brewing Company (Austin, TX) and continued on with the esteemed brewers Urban Chestnut Brewing Company (St. Louis, MO). The project has made its way to Salem, CT and we’re very proud to share our American Zoigl.

Following the established framework for the beer while bringing our own approach, we used a local heirloom corn variety (Wapsie Valley) in a cereal mash, barley from Valley Malt, whole leaf Crystal hops and American-grown Saaz hops. Marrying old and new world lager brewing methods, there’s a depth of flavor and character we just love in this beer - subtle corn sweetness, a mellow/rounded malt character and noble-like hops with a zippy, citrus side.
