Danke an DerDoppelbock für das Bier. Malzig-hopfiger Geruch. Test vom 16.2.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,10,9,12,9,9

Bottle. Cloudy orange amber, brown foam. Roasted caramel aroma, light sour malt. Roasted nutty and caramelly notes finished up by a herbal and heatherlike hop note. Medium to light body. Herbal afterplay. Danke Sebastian!

Flip-top bottle (@Düsseldorf Gathering): Hazy, dark amber coloured; grainy and a bit yeasty nose; robust bitter flavour, quite light bodied, slightly lingering bitter-hoppy finish. A well made, pleasant brew..........

(swing top bottle, received from DerDoppelbock) Cloudy, dark amber colour with a fluffy but not lasting frothy off-white head. Dusty, slightly sweet and spicy herbal aroma, slightly roasty with faint notes of caramel. Light-bitter flavour, light to medium body with a lively carbonation. Malty taste with caramel, a bit fizzy on the palate; pleasantly dry, moderately yeasty and bitter finish with a touch of herbal hops. Quaffable.

Ruby-chestnut colour, well-carbonated to good, collapsing, creamy head, slightly irregular. Very earthy, leafy notes and hints at chocolate and fresh yeast, slightly spicey. Dry-bitter, again earthy, leafy, hoppy and even chocolate notes. Severe, but excellent. Some dark malts, warming up more sweetness, like more sweetened dark chocolate. Light to medium bodied, refreshing. This is a prejudice-shaking beer. Towards its own expectations: the label calls it "mildly-hopped", whereas it is way hoppier than most of these Kellerbiere; and towards its history, as the original Monschauer Brauerei Zwickelbier (which I happened to sample draught at the brewerytap) never attained this quality. Big thanks for this one, Sebastian!!
