After brewing this intense double IPA with more than 10 different hops and consistently delivering it faster than any bottled IPA on the planet, we decided to do something different with this Stone Enjoy By IPA—we took it to another level, again. Puréed tangerines were added to the batch to create a devastatingly fresh IPA with a tang of tangerine. The flavors yielded by this addition to the recipe meld beautifully with the bitterness of the hops. True to this series, Stone Enjoy By Tangerine IPA is brewed specifically NOT to last, and should be enjoyed within 37 days.

Although still very similar to our classic version of Stone Enjoy By IPA (it is the same recipe, after all), the tangerine adds a more intense citrus element to the beer. We first made this variation in 2015 as a very small batch and loved it so much that we had to find a date for it in 2016.

Pours a clear, yellow-gold, with minimal head. Strong fruity, citrus aroma, with a slightly chemical-orangeish touch. Flavor is very citrusy, lots of tangerine/orange in the front. Big pine-hop bite. Lots of bitterness to the finish. Didn’t realize this was a double IPA until just now, entering the rating. It’s not bad, not bad at all.

Pours bright amber into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Tangerine peel aromas. Sweet bready caramel and tangerine peel upfront turning to hot, burning pith before the lasting burning finish. While it’s good, This one is a little too hot for me to be an "Enjoy By"...

Enjoy by 05.30.16 bottle from Hoboken Vine. Pours a mostly clear brighter owner color with a frothy white to off white head. Fairly substantial lace. Fruity hops and some resin. Light pale malt backbone. Clean and very drinkable, and it feels like something way under its ABV level. As it warms the fruit fades.

Poured into a snifter showing well filtered honey yellow with a half a finger of sparse white foam. The nose shows big notes of tangerine with light tropical hops and malts in the background. The palate is full bodied and moderately carbonated. Light notes of citrus and tropical fruit. Citric zest spiciness throughout with a strong zesty bitterness on the end. Not as great as the Enjoy By.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/24/2016. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with goof retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, honey, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome complexity and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, tangerines, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, honey, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon/orange rind, pine, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, tangerines, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, sticky/resinous, and lightly grainy/creamy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic fruited DIPA. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, tangerines, and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. I did not find this too much different than the base beer, overall. You do get nice juicy tangerine notes up front, but the main hop profile of the base beer still has great presence; which I actually preferred, instead of the tangerines being overdone. A highly enjoyable offering.
