Barleywines are difficult to find in my part of the world, Half Time in NY helps with that. Today I have a pint can to sample, my Great Heights snifter is present and ready. The appearance is a copper-amber body completed by a thin but steadily recharged head of taupe foam. I find the nose to be toffee, grain and red plums. A decent enough scent with the taste easily better. Raisins, scorched grain, caramel, hay, ripe plums, malt and a bit of hops background. The elevated ABV is hard to determine in the tasting but we shall see as we go, 16 oz after all. I call this a good start to the evening.
