(Draught at Walhalla Taproom, Amsterdam, 16 Aug 2025) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Roasted, malty, hoppy nose with dark bread, grapefruit, pine needles and coffee. Malty, roasted, hoppy taste with notes of coffee, dark bread, grapefruit, pine needles and a generous citric/piney bitterness. Almost full body, quite dry. Roasty, hoppy and well balanced black IPA. Nice one.

33cl Blik bij Free Beer Duinoord. Zwarte kleur, beige kraag.

Can from Free Beer. Dark brown with tan head. Chocolate, sweet malts, quite roasty, hazelnuts, toffee, lime leaves, grassy. Solid sweet, medium bitter and very light sour. Over medium bodied. Nice.

Can at home. This is exactly what I would expect from a supermarket black IPA (if black ipas were sold at supermarkets, that is). Painfully mediocre, except for the extreme astringency, which, in fact, makes it even worse than mediocre.

On tap at Proeflokaal Arendsnest. Pours black with a beige head. Tons of pine, dark sugars, roasted malt, and caramelized peaches on the nose. Flavour has tons of bright pine, dark chewy malts, caramelized peaches. Malt profile is solid and the up expression is great. Very solid black IPA.

Clear brown beer, small creamy irregular beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: malty, grains, hay, cow fodder, coffee, good roast, a little fruity touch to it. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: good roast, bitter, very malty, grains, some coffee, cocoa powder, slightly sweet. Aftertaste: bitter, hoppy, a bit resinous, dry, very hoppy, ok but not great.
