Note this is a different beer to the 5.5% collaboration previously done for wetherspoons Festival.

A special brew from Samuel Adams to celebrate American Independence Day on 4th July.

Brewed at Shepherd Neame’s Faversham brewery from a recipe devised in conjunction with the Boston Beer Company, it uses equal measures of US and UK hops.

The result is a summer pale ale with a delightful blend of grapefruit notes from the US Cascade hops and grassy earthiness from the Kent hops.

Bottled. Golden colour with a mediumsized foamy white head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is caramel malts, some fruity, wooden and mild toasted tones with some mild diacetylic elements. Flavour is herbal, grassy, wooden, some mild crisp bready and biscuity malts with mild citrus as well.

500ml bottle. Poured a crystal clear golden blonde colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is buttery light caramel malt, light fruit, woody hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a light fresh, light cardboard malt, light citrus fruit, light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle that Dad shared- cheers! Orange in colour with a moderate prickly fizz- others thought it looked like orangeade. Smells and tastes predominantly of soggy cardboard. There’s a little sweet malr hidden behind the cardboard, and maybe a touch of lemon, but it’s fairly poor stuff. Can’t believe Samuel Adams are prepared to let this go out in their name. Maybe they’ve got so big they think they can act like a global multi-national brewer and ignore the quality of contracr brews as long as they bring in profit?

Golden color, small white head, lace. Sweetish, honeyish nose. Light-bodied. Pale malty, a bit honeyish. Watery finish. Lame. Feels English.

Cask @ Betsey Trotwood, Clerkenwell, London. Golden-blonde with a thin creamy head. Has a very easy-drinking texture, with a mildly dry tasting pale ale hoppiness, and is similar in its nose. Could be sessionable.

4.5% ABV 500ml bottle from Morrisons: shared with the wife in bright sunshine, at home on 20th April 2016. Pale golden pour with a full white head. Decent enough blend with the hops just about winning in both the aroma and taste stakes. Refreshing in the sun but not really flavoursome or interesting. Light citrus notes and a mild caramel base is all I could find.

(Bottle) Pours clear golden with good white head. Nice, if subtle, aroma - citrus with hints if bread. Light body good carbonation. Pleasant foretaste of sweet light malt balanced with citrus notes. Falls away to a somewhat mineral taste with some bitterness. Reasonable blond.
