B:1a is an American barley wine hopped with Idaho 7 hops. The base beer (D:13) was double-mashed and brewed in April 2024. Following initial fermentation on steel, the beer was aged for 10 months on a freshly emptied ex-bourbon whisky cask from our local distillery, Fary Lochan.

Bottle from Havnens Vin & Tobakhus. Pours cloudy reddish dark brown with small offwhite head. Aroma is dark malts, caramel, fudge, vanilla, liquorice, prunes, and hints of yeast and Vegemite. Taste is medium to very sweet, light to medium bitter, and light salty. Body is creamy with light carbonation. Finish is long, rich, and balanced sweet and bitter with notes of raisins, prunes, caramel, biscuits, syrup, pour over coffee, sweet liquorice, salty liquorice, port wine, and vanilla. Very nice beer, but I liked B:1b slightly better.

Bottl3 33 cl. Cloudy, opaque, deep brown with a small, rough, beige head - lazy pour. Intense wood and whisky aroma paired with toffee and caramel. Super rich and sweet body. Plenty of caramel, toffee and brown sugars with a warming whisky finish. Soft carbonation. Everything in sync - lovely! 070425
