Bottle. Loved this beer. Really is a hybrid of two of my favorite styles. Has that amber color and balanced aroma of a marzen beer and the malty very slightly sweet flavor of a doppelbock.

Notes from December 2010 Got a couple of these as a throw in for reaching 60,000 beer miles on my credit card last bottle run. Not bad, but maybe I should of taken the commemorative paper weight instead. Pint glass pour. Coarse, foamy light-beige lather. Clear, dark amber body, like the color of a sizzling heat lamp. Smell is of simple soaked grain, a little bit of caramel, along with a small amount of rye. Taste is of malt extract, molasses, cola, with a really dense whole grain bread finish. Alcohol is pretty forgiving. Dry, but textured. Malted & somewhat roasted, but not sweet, or fortifying like a bock. Carbonation is strong, but doesn't thin the already less then full body. Pretty good for an imperial brown. Pretty wack for a bock.

Bottle pours clear garnet with tan head. The aroma is musty malts shuffling over to some malt roastiness with thin layers of dark fruitiness and a sense of caramel back off in the background. It has a light aroma but it seems pretty darn nice. The taste begins with malts both sweet and roasty that create a pleasing mix. Soon after modest notes of figs and dates and caramel pick up and join in to midway. Into the finish malt roastiness, a touch of caramel and some cherry hard candy take this to closure. Nice. The moderate level of malt roastiness keep this from being overly sweet.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a dark chestnut color with a medium sized dark tan head. The aroma was woody, nutty and lightly roasty. The flavor was tangy, roasty and woody with a light nutty undertone and a touch of smoke. The finish was long nutty and woody. Medium body. Solid.

Bottle. Body is about the color of darkly stained cherry wood with some of the reddish highlights where the light pours in. Aromas are sweet and malty with a little bit of an apple and fruit undertone. Flavor is sweet of apples and toffee with a touch of a spicy note that strikes now and again, but not consistently. Mouthfeel is failry smooth and a little silky, but there is a bit of an aftertaste that is slightly acidic and a little bit foul. Kind of like rotten peat moss with a chalky texture. Still, it is an inconsistent aftertaste that doesn’t follow each sip, and when it isn’t there, things are pleasant, but fairly unispiring.
