By the middle of the 19th century Wormwood was replaced with gin, sugar and other spices such as ginger and nutmeg, and this new Purl was sold on the Thames by Purl-Men from the Purl-Boats.
So how did we make our Purl? We took an all UK hop bill and then added 150 kilos of orange zest, adding just enough crushed ginger to give a gentle kick. The brilliant heat from the ginger compliments the sweet bitterness from the orange peel adds to the mellow, spicy backbone of our all British malt bill.

330ml can. Zesty, orange juicy with some tangerine, mandarin and zesty grapefruit, hints of tartish citrus. Refreshing, but a bit onedimensional.

Can from Morrisons. Hazy golden body with a thick white head. Steady carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of juicy orange and minerals. Flavour of grassy hops and fleshy tangerine. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. Bright and zesty, sweet and bitter at the same time. Loved this. No idea why the scores here aren’t higher.

330ml can. Hazy gold, small white head, minimal retention. Orange tangy aroma. Taste is tangerine, grass, malts, with a zesty citrus and bitter finish. Moderate body and decent carbonation. Flavoursome good stuff although I think I prefer Brewdog's Clockwork Tangerine in the orange flavoured IPA stakes.

Can at home, from Tesco Online, 17/07/20. Hazed orange golden with a decent white cap. Nose is orange zest, citric tinged straw, melon, light herb. Taste comprises tangerine, grass, melon, toasted malts, light grapefruit zest, orange peel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with balanced hop bitterness. Passable number ... as I expected tbh ... kind of slightly dumbed down and muted hop presence to suit the supermarket palate and pricepoint.

Fruity smell. Hoppy, citrusy, a bit light, pretty floral. A dry finish but reminds me more of a session ipa. Ok.
