This brew is based on a historic recipe from the 1640’s called Purl. Purl was also known as Wormwood Ale which included orange peel and leaves from the senna plant.
By the middle of the 19th century Wormwood was replaced with gin, sugar and other spices such as ginger and nutmeg, and this new Purl was sold on the Thames by Purl-Men from the Purl-Boats.
So how did we make our Purl? We took an all UK hop bill and then added 150 kilos of orange zest, adding just enough crushed ginger to give a gentle kick. The brilliant heat from the ginger compliments the sweet bitterness from the orange peel adds to the mellow, spicy backbone of our all British malt bill.

Can that Jim shared - cheers! Hazy gold with a white head. Peach milkshake in the aroma and initial taste. The flavour is a bit dulled in the middle before a long pleasant orange peel bitterness emerges in the finish. Decent beer.
