Barrel aged saison with boysenberries.
Appreciation is a barrel-aged farmhouse ale fermented with boysenberries and our resident funk. After several months in red wine barrels it has taken on a mouth-watering acidity a whiff of the barnyard, and stronger aromas and flavors attributed to the fruit. Appreciation's ruby red color entices welcoming another sip, another clink of glasses with friends, another moment of contentment and contemplation! With gratitude, we humbly offer our appreciation.

Bottle shared during RBWG 2016. Pours unclear blood red with a frothy off-white head. Tart dried berries in the nose, fruit leather, light earth. Lightly sweet, fairly acidic, with tart berries, more leathery fruits, light funk. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Tart, cleansing finish with more berries, leather, earth, cellar, some woody dryness. Nice beer.

On draft at Trappist Provisions. It pours a super cloudy pinkish purple color with a massive pink head. Lots of sediment in this one. They poured about 20 glasses out of the keg and still had sediment problems. Oh well. The aroma is big time blackberry and raspberry. Good amount of acid on the nose. The flavor is also filled with tart berry fruit. Heavy lactic acid as well with some solid berry sweetness to balance it out. Not much barrel or funk, just tons of mouth puckering fruit. Not yeasty or muddled despite the cloudy appearance. Maybe itβs just pectin haze. Pretty delightful stuff.

Aroma is fairly fruity with moderately strong berry notes. Some light citrus and medium light tropical fruit funk. Light oak and wine notes. Pours a cloudy pinkish red with orange and copper hues. Faintly pink head with moderate retention and faint lacing. Flavor had light acidity with moderate fruit notes. Nice barrel character. As it warms more acidity and fruit. Medium light citrus with more acidity and citrus add it warms. Nice oak and faint malt notes with moderate saison yeast notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really nice berry saison with nice complimentary citrus and wine barrel character. Nice yeast notes adding great fruit and acidity.

Bottle: Poured a deep reddish color ale with a large pink color head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet cherry notes is very pleasant with some tart notes easily noticeable. Taste is a great mix between some tart notes with some sweet cherry notes light oak and some vinous notes also apparent. Body is quite full for the style with good amount of carbonation. A nice balance to avoid too much acidity which ends up in a great complex but easily drinkable beer.
