Bottle: Nice brown and mahoghany color with a tan head. Taste is clean with malt, spices, earthiness, and a bit of hops finish. Rich and flavorful body throughout.

On Tap at Full Sail Hood River. Pours out a nice brown with a great brown head. Has some hops and spice very nice.

A hazy nut-brown beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with a very light note of hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and quite a lot of hops, combined with light notes of licorice root, leading to a dry slightly spicy hoppy end.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Clear orangey brown with a creamy, beige head. Aroma of nuts and roasted malt. Medium body with an underlying malty sweetness. Marked - somewhat raw - bitterness with a very present alcohol. Interesting brew, and very far from what the English categorize as Old Ale. 210606

Deep garnet with a pitted khaki head. Wonderful aroma, nuts and berries! Dark fruit, plum, blackberry, walnuts, fruitcake, a little gingerish maybe. Rich and sweetish front, with some fruit and a touch of bittersweet chocolate and mild roast, easing into a nicely hopped (spice, floral) finish, with a warming alcohol to top it off. I paired this with a nice strong stinky salty roquefort bleu cheese, and while the combination was pretty good, I have to say the beer didn’t stand up well in terms of intensity of flavors. (that’s just a general comment, not factored into the ratings)

Sampler from bottle. Don’t know how old this taste was, but it’s from a pretty dusty bottle. Syrupy smell from aged beer. Spices up front, but diminishing while the alcohol nose increases. Also has a big chocolate note. Holds up nicely.

A friend brought this beer back for me from a trip out west - Thanks Pigboy! I am totally unfamiliar with this brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a dark mahogany color with a medium sized tan head. There is a strong fruity hop aroma with a light vague spiciness underneath. The flavor is rich and malty and has a strong floral hop character but there is a strong alcohol burn that really detracts from the overall beer experience. Had that alcohol burn not been so prominent I would certainly have rated this beer higher.

Bottle Pours a deep dark mahogany with a dense light tan head. Rich heavy dark pitted fruit aromas Cherry, plum, apples. Complex. Flavors are dark, woody notes of raisons and a fairly strong alchol taste. Bitterness at the end is more of a tannin sharpness than typical hops. A hefty brew with a full smooth feel.

On draught January 2005 at Redbones. Dark, near black pour, with some large bubbles and fizzy off-white head that disipates rapidly. Looks like a glass of coke. Aroma of dry toffee and caramel, licorice and light English hops. Begins flavorful and hoppy, but not in an extreme, American, bitter way. Notes of licorice root, caramel and light roast. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Good balance here, not too sweet or too bitter and the spiciness is not overdone. Some wateriness on the finish detracts a bit. I’m a big fan of Full sail after only having two of their beers thus far. Tough to categorize these Winter Warmers. Some are ales, some are old ales and some are English Strong Ales. I like ’em all though. I’d like to mull this one.

Thanks to Bück Dich for this one. Dark brown with lots of ruby highlights under a fleeting 1" head. Caramel and spice and nuts in the aroma. Smooth and malty with just a hint of hop bitterness. Nice brew.
