After a busy weekend, we typically have a stack of empty kegs that turn into architectural marvels and often become de facto forts where we hide in the brewery. You must know the password and secret handshake to enter. We think this full-flavored yet smashable oatmeal stout is going to add significant amounts of kegs to the pile. We used the best British, American, and German specialty malts with rolled oats for a silky but surprisingly refreshing body. We kept the bitterness low and added over 22 lbs of Italian Dutch-process cocoa powder to the whirlpool along with a significant dose of vanilla bean paste. The result is a round and silky springtime stout with the aroma and flavor of classic hot cocoa.
