In March 2024 we ventured over to the rhubarb triangle in West Yorkshire and picked up forced rhubarb for this beer. Grown in the dark and harvested by candlelight, this is a truly unique part of Northern food heritage, with Oldroyd & Sons growing since 1930. We blended three barrels, filled in early 2023, onto carbonically macerated rhubarb where it steeped for six months.
Earthy and sharp with delightful minerality, this beer develops and unfolds over time. There’s almost sweetness from the barrel with fruity rhubarb sharpness and bags of funk that meld with the slight bitterness at the finish.

Rhubarb wild ale. Tap at the brewery Manchester. A mostly clear golden orange coloured pour with a loose white head. Aroma is big earthy rhubarb, wet rhubarb, straw, damp hay, lemon twist. Solid funk. Palate is sharp. Lemon rind, nice balance.

Keg at the Balance taproom, 17/05/2025.
Almost clear golden orange topped with an off white cap that thins to the edge.
Nose is tarte fruit esters, funk, herb, barnyard nip, rhubarb stalk.
Taste comprises rhubarb yoghurt, light spice, farmyard tones, herb, hay bale.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balance acidic spike.
Solid stuff.
