The name of this beer style comes from the German word “alt” meaning “old”. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

Bottle from Vons, Las Vegas. Pours hazy dark amber with a minimal, off-white head - some particles in it. The aroma contains malt, caramel, bread, fruits, hops, some nuts. It tastes medium sweet and very light bitter without becoming really hoppy. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Agreeable.

Pours amber from the bottle with an off white head. Aroma is caramel. Taste is sweet, lots of caramel, and light red berry undertones. Body stays rather light. Decent if unexciting.

OK cool, altbier. Bottle. Darkish pale beer. Sweet malty hardtack candy aroma. Older sweeter near cloying older lager feel. A little thick, sticky with some co2. Medicinal malty thang. Perhaps some peat in there. Malty malt. Seems a lot more than 5.5%. Not impressed. Not nearly as drinkable as Big Boss Beer Fest Beer, Erie Brewing Heritage Alt or Schell Schmaltzs Alt.

On tap at Seattle airport, USA. Really farewell beer this time, thanks to luttonm for all he did for me! Pours super bright Amber color with a medium tan foam. Nose: ash, butterscotch, amber/caramel. Mouth: littler amber feel, but peppery and crispy overall mouth with a very nice bitter finish! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
