The name of this beer style comes from the German word “alt” meaning “old”. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

Pours somewhat dark brown/red, two finger white foamy head, decent amount of lacing, malty somewhat nutty aroma, sweet yet a deep bready maltiness in the taste, smooth over the palate, about a medium in body, good altbier that I would have again

Tap at Dexters. Filtered amber-ruby brown body. Thin, steady, oily head. Malty and smooth, not far removed from an Alt. Zesty fruit tinged hop balance. Toasty malt tones, approaching a light hoppy brown. Fruity vanilla edge. Exceptionally balanced, great beer.

Draft in pint glass. Clean, medium red amber with fine, small head. Initial taste had a pleasant mild fizzy sweetness. Followed by solid maltiness. Good basic beer!

Bottle. Pours clear deep amber with a small off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is caramel, toffee, roasted malt with a note of grain. Flavor is medium sweet, roasted malt, grain, grassy with a very light bitter finish. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, not a bad effort. Rerate 09/10/2013. Upped it 0.2 in a blind accidental rerate
