Courtesy of Quake1028. Pours dark dark brown with light brown head. The aroma is coffee, a hint of chocolate mixed with bosco, spicy mustard sauce and mild roasty malts. The taste is somewhat different than the aroma with rich malts, chocolate and coffee. Wow, this is rich and nearly decadent in its opulence. Into the finish mild burnt malts and malt astringency add some balance to the experience. It has a healthy dose of YUM.

Smells like coffee, but not exactly fresh coffee. Very dark brown color with a tan ring for head. Near medium in body with fizzy carbonation. Flavor is coffee, with a hint of some sort of liqeur. Toasted/burnt malt notes. Not sure I am tasting chocolate, but could be. Finshes something like coffee with a bit of sugar. Quite different, and very pleasant.

12 oz bottle from Gregis. Batch 7768 - (packaged on December 21, 2006). Pour is deep brown with only faint ruby highlights, smallish tan head. Aroma of musty charred wood, smoke, perhaps a bit of milkiness. Taste of milky caramel sweetness, and the charred coffee taste behind. There is some bitterness on the finish. Body is somewhat syrupy and mouth coating. This reminded me of the Bells Double Cream Stout, though a bit flatter and a lot less soft. If I see this a bit fresher, I may give it another try. Bouteille 12oz, courtoisie de Hogtownharry. De couleur noire et opaque. Nez malté de chocolat noir, de café, moyen de malt rôti, léger de houblon herbeux et avec des petites notes de chocolat au lait (notes lactiques). Moyenne-ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture riche et crémeuse. Petites notes de chocolat au lait et de crème (notes lactiques) avec de faibles traces de tabac et de fruits (prunes et dates) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût moyennement amer de chocolat noir ainsi qu’un goût de malt rôti puis progressivement le goût de café vient se joindre au goût pour dominer en finale, accompagné d’un léger goût de houblon assez herbeux (petites notes terreuses et boisées aussi perceptibles en toute fin). Post-goût très long aux notes sèches et moyennement amer de café espresso, de rôti, moyen de chocolat et léger de houblon herbeux avec des notes de chocolat au lait.

Well I fully understand why it’s called a Java stout! Terrific aroma and flavor! Dark with orange/brown head. Goes does very smooth...another fantastic Bell’s beer!!

Bottle. Coffee ground and malt aroma - like smelling a new bag/can of coffee. Midnight black with giant tan head. Strong espresso malt flavor with a light bitter finish. Delicious.

Big beefy black stout. Swirl this stuff around to unsettle the gunk on the bottom and its the best pour ever for a tremendous visual presentation! Rolling top half of brew. Coffee aroma, what else? Big black cold coffee impact. Once you go black you’ll never come back is what my dad used to say! Strong like too much coffe was used to brew it. If you heat this up I think you can repair the cracks in the asphlt driveway with it. Quite strong and suppressive. On par with Founders breakfast stout. Finish is, well, what else, youwser youwser big black coffe and bitter need not be said. Probably should be rated as an imperial stout, not just plain stout!

Bottle. It’s a Bell’s stout taste fest! Pours opaque black with a dark, medium sizes head. The aroma is, what else? More coffee ice cream than coffee. Taste is a little bitter for my taste, but I’m not a coffee drinker.

Bottle courtesy of Plucier: Poured a deep pitch-black color stout with a nice big foamy head with great retention and great lacing. Aroma of medium dry coffee is well balance with roasted malt and light subtle dark chocolate. Taste of nice coffee without being too overpowering and some nice medium bitter roasted malt. Texture is quite creamy which is appreciated with a quite full body and some adequate carbonation. I thought this was a very well done and well balance example of a coffee stout.

Bottle: Pours black with a large, creamy tan head. Good lacing. Nose is coffee dominated with heavy roasted malt tones. Taste is a better marriage of the coffee with the roasted malt and notes of bittersweet chocolate. Very tasty and thanks to EithCubes & dirty_martini for sending this gem.
