The more coffee stouts I try, the more I’m skeptical of the style. This one features a pleasant, deep coffee aroma with a sweeter molasses component as well. Milder roasted notes are there. Flavor starts off with coffee, and not a whole lot else. Mouthfeel is on the thin side, as alot of coffee stouts are. This one is a touch heavier than most. There’s a roasty chocolate compnent that tries to assert itself. Very low hops, it seems as if the coffee is used as a substitute. Pretty dark, nearly black, with a 1 finger tan head.

Pours mahogany into a snifter. Offwhite head recedes to skim rim. Sour chocolate and espresso aromas. Slightly thin and sour with a lasting espresso finish.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm, 13 april 2007) Pitch black colour with a short brown head. Roasted nose with distinct notes of coffee, heavily roasted and freshly ground. Same goes for the taste: roasted with freshly ground, black coffee, notes of blueberries as well. Some sweetish notes balance the dry, roasted coffee character very nicely. I wouldn’t call this very complex, it’s actually rather one dimensional. But still, this is lovely coffee ... sorry, beer (if you love youre coffee black and strong)

Dark black body with a small creamy light brown head. Sweet rich coffee aroma with some light chocolate hints. Strong creamy coffee flavor with a gentle chocolate background.

Bottle. Dark brown pour. Aroma is coffee, and flavor is deffinately coffee with some chocolate tones. Much more coffee flavor than I expected, but once I realized that "Java" was coffee java (I suppose looking at the bottle after it was brought to me could have helped), I enjoyed it.

Bottle. Black, small brown head. Lots of chocolates and coffee in the nose. Flavor is the same: baker’s chocolate, coffee, malts. Too much for more than one at a time.

Bottle a trade with kramer17801 Stouts are great in any season! I drink hot coffee every morning even when it’s 85 at dawn! Nose of coffee, dark chocolate, with a smoked malt note in the background, kinda faint, but there. Totally opaque black with hints of crimson showing at the surface edges and a thick red-tinged tan head that hangs in there while you sip. Flavor shows COFFEE!, bitter chocolate, and a nice bitter hop finish!

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours completely black and opaque with a creamy, beige head. Extremely ashy, burned aroma - as if this was brewed on an emptied ashtray. Medium-bodied again with very burned malt and notes of both licorice and chocolate. Lightly bitter finish. 030306

bottle sample at Dark Lord Day - Pours black with a tan head. The aroma, you guessed it, coffee! The flavor is... coffee! This beer is like a cup of coffee with a hops finish. It’s good coffee. I think it could use a little more balance though.
