Pours very dark with a more substantial head than most stouts. Foamy and tan. Aromas are heavy of smoke, charcoal and coffee with a touch of chocolate in the background. Flavor is much lighter than expected given the burnt wood aromas. Chocolate and coffee are the dominant players, but there is also a nice vanilla/cream undercurrent that goes nicely with the silky mouthfeel. The smokey charcoal scent reappears as a bit of an aftertaste. Lovely.

I am not a big java fan. It looks great and smells like a java. pours a very nice black and had a good head. to much java for me. It does tast better once it gets closer to room temp.

Poures thick like most of Bells stouts and has a dark, almost black hue to it with thin tan head. Has a nice roasted coffee aroma. Flavor is very much roasted coffee with slight chocolate and some malt. The mouth is very thick and smooth. A very interesting and tasty stout.

Bottle Pours a deep oily black with an extremely thick, light brown head. Lots of persistant thick sticky lacing. Strong coffe and roasted aromas. Very rich dark coffe flavors. Sweetness balances nicely. Very thick and heavy on the palate. Bitter coffe aftertaste. Heavy and satisfying. Thanks goes out to Pailhead for reminding me to keep trying to get all the ’Bells’ I can

Coffee, coffee, coffee. Why not just drink coffee? Oh, yeah, the alcohol. And the roasted malts that are like adding one lump of sugar. The cream is in the mouthfeel. And then there’s the hint of sweet chocolate. But mostly coffee. Poured dark brown (like a cup of coffee) with big, tan head. Overall, quite enjoyable.

A black beer with a nice dark chocolate brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of fresh brewed coffee and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with powerful notes of coffee combined with notes of oil and chocolate, leading to a dry roasted end.

Bottled. Yep, a big coffee smell when the bottle is opened and poured. Also a rocky, espresso-foam brown head. Sure enough, it’s black as a coffee and stout together could be. Taste is a bit off to me, though. Very astringent and grainy. I get some smoky character, chocolate roast, and even a bit of chile pepper. I bought this last October (5 months ago), but maybe this could stand a little cellaring to smooth it out.

Opaque black brew with a medium brown head. Good nose of coffee and chocolate as expected. Sweet and rich flavor, lots of the promised java, and delivered with a good full palate that was creamy and soft. Very satisfying.

Deep dark stout with thin white head. Dark chocolate aroma with lactic points with ashes. Dry bitter chocolate with anice nutty finish which lasts, covers the sweet character of the malt. Medium bodied. Bitterness increases as beer warms up.

Beerslayer said it all. Tons of coffee in the aroma, but some vegetable aroma as well. Black beer, big brown head. Flavor mostly of coffee with some chocolate mixed in. The most coffee flavor I have had in a beer.
