Review from notes, sampled 1/11/2008 Received this in a trade with Jay23, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a solid black that no light gets through. Average pour almost overflowed my glass with head. We’ve got some carbonation in suspension here. Aroma is overwhelming with coffee. I also pick up some dried fruits and a bit of chocolate. If there was steam coming out of my glass I would think it was a flavored coffee. Taste is more roasted coffee bitterness with some creamy chocolate mixed into the fold. Creamy mouthfeel with a coffee bitterness in the finish. Solid double stout with coffee added. Another great beer from Bell’s.

Batch 9959 thanks to Secret Santa. Pours with a black pour and a large brown head. Very pretty in the glass. Big fresh, roasty, tropical spicy coffee roast aroma. Pretty awesome. Nutty, minerally, flint, creamer. All these descriptors are on the coffee aspect of the beer (which is everything!). A bit of leather. Big, leathery, roasty, nearly acidic, earthy coffee flavors. Rich roast. Very different than a Kopi roast, but equally pungent and very nice. Medium to low hop bitterness (added bitterness from the roast). Light chocolate and vanilla flavors in the finish. Lingering coffee. Pure coffee beer and very nice, different profile than some of the other pure coffee beers that I have had recently. Very rich with coffee decadence. Full bodied. Not overly sweet (perfect actually). Medium bubbles. Dry and good. I need to brew a coffee stout soon.

Bottle thanks to drfabulous. Pours black with tan head. Little retention. Nose is freshly made coffee, hazlenuts, chocolate and toasted malts. Taste is very fresh coffee, coffee beans, chocolate, toasted malts and vanilla. One of the better regular stouts I’ve ever had.

Black color; medium sized head, beige. The aroma is actually suspiciously dusty; there is roasted malt too, coffee grounds, very light phenol, not very nice. The flavor is much better; smooth mouthfeel, roasted malt in front, light coffee, actually with some residual sweetness; later, there is some light liquorice and phenol. Correct bitterness; the final is a bit drier. Very good.

Pours a nice, thick, dark, oily-black with small creamy head. Aroma of coffee is strong. Flavor is a nice coffee, with some chocolate and some caramel, along with the roasted malt. This is a very well-done coffee stout.
