The friendship between Half Acre and Maine Beer Company and the good times we've shared have become as legendary as the Sapping Mammoth featured in our first collaboration. Expanding on this partnership, we felt it was time for the story to continue with the Son of Sapping Mammoth. For this beer we brewed an IPA featuring Midwest-grown grain as a tribute to our Chicago friends. We hope you enjoy!

Pale, brassy-straw-blonde, light, almost chill-haze to it, with a small but fairly dense, white head atop.
Yellow fruit, pine and grapefruit in the nose gives a fairly hybridized IPA feel to this, initially. Cracker malts and some honey sit lightly behind it, with a bit of resin and lots of papaya, pineapple and lemon lingering. Pretty aromatic, though a bit of aspirin-like yeast character dulls the aroma on the end, which already suffers from the light resin character.
In the mouth it's fairly soft, dry, malty and showing cracker and light honey with nectarine, pineapple, papaya turning in to strong lemon, grapefruit and pine. Neither of these breweries make a full-on NE IPA, tending towards more clear, and much more bitter IPAs, so it's not surprising to get this product. But even given my preference for NE IPAs, this still feels just a bit too twangy/resinous.

Pours clear gold into a shaker. Bright white head with excellent retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Mango and passion fruit aromas. Dry with passion fruit and guava front to back. Lasting pith finish.
