Bottle 33cl. from a local Jumbo supermarket @home poured into a teku glass. Strong yeasty nose. Clear deep golden colour, good frothy white head, mostly diminishing, light lacing. Aroma sweet malts, grain, banana, pear, white grapes, honey, Belgian yeast, floral hops. Smooth taste, above medium sweet and light bitter, malty, grain, banana, pear, yeast, light cloves. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, smooth sweetbitter aftertaste, easy to drink, well-made (perhaps too), has a certain style, nice.

Belgian style blonde by Jopen - clearly catering to a larger audience, hence its presence on the Albert Heijn supermarket shelves, I presume; apparently an organic beer (hence 'bio' - which has never made any real impression on me, to be honest). Can from the Albert Heijn in Lokeren. Off-white, thick and moussy, regular, cobweb-lacing head, slowly breaking here and there but generally very well-retaining; initially crystal clear pale but pure yellow-golden robe with some thin strings of visible sparkling here and there, turning only very lightly misty with sediment. Aroma of banana-flavoured bubblegum (strong isoamylacetate), ripe pear, croissant dough, coriander, breakfast cereals including a vague iron touch, honey, sweetclover, powder sugar, jasmin blossom rather than the announced vanilla, lilies or orchids, bath foam, hints of bluegrass, raw yam and cooked rice. Rather sweet onset with a whole lot of isoamylacetate (banana and bubblegum), next to hints of pear, peach and ripe pineapple, but all remaining quite 'clean' and sleek; prickly but fine-bubbled, bit minerally carbonation, smooth mouthfeel. Cereally and subduedly sweet pale maltiness, a tad bready but again remaining quite sleek, with ongoing banana and upcoming clove - the normal procedure when it comes to Belgian blonde. Retronasal floweriness from the hops, again a somewhat perfumey jasmin blossom effect with side notes of tropical orchids and blossoming cherry orchards, more aromatic than is custom in this style and also depositing a leafy, spicy bitterness on the root of the tongue, which nevertheless remains mild and gentle so that the banana effect can pass undisturbedly, returning once more retronasally before going down. Smooth and creamy, sleek blonde, indeed something the masses may appreciate - but devoid of the decades-long mastery Jopen has shown in more 'ambitious' styles. Very 'commercial', one for a really large audience, that much is clear; too sweet, too simple and too sleek for me, but I must admit that at the same time, it does show a certain 'feminine' elegance with those delicately flowery and perfumey hop aromas and there is certainly worse on the market in this particular segment. If hypercommercial, sweet and simple blondes are your thing, I would recommend to skip your trusted blonde Leffe or Grimbergen and pick this one, as it clearly has the same concept in mind but executes it in a slightly more refined way. Slightly.
Edit: also tasted as "Daddy, Daddy Cool" (shared by Craftmember) from a 75 cl bottle, which seemed just a tad more coriander-y than I remember from this base beer, but equally efficient in impersonating the archetypical Belgian blonde.

Can. Light golden. Sweet malts, light banana, soft cloves, sweet grainy notes with a bit of alcohol, spices and dried stone fruits. Over medium sweet. Not amazing but drinkeable.

33 cl. can @ home, bought @ Albert Heijn Culemborg. Clear golden with a white head. Grainy fruity yeasty aroma with some banana. Sweet taste with a mediukm bitter finish. Solid but very unexciting Belgian blonde.

33cl Fles van Jumbo. Diep goudgele kleur, witte kraag. Jopen heeft het voor elkaar: het recept voor het meest generieke Blondje in de vorm van een Leffe Blond-kloon. Ik viel al bijna in slaap van de geur, zo saai. Kruidig, zoet, banaan, veel esters, typisch Belgisch, licht bitter, fruitig. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Sparkly Pasen Blond on 10 Jun 2025 at 12:38 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6. Original review text: 75cl Fles. Iets mistig goudgele kleur, witte kraag. Medium zoet, kruidig, esters, Belgisch, stereotype Blond met een tikje meer bitterhop. Lichte body. Degelijk, weinig spannend.
