The Hemperor HPA – The World’s Dankest Ale
Get ready: an exciting new offering that’ll change the way you think about hoppy beers is coming your way. The brewers at New Belgium have created a new style of IPA: The Hemperor HPA. With the popularity of hoppy beers, our brewers are always on the lookout for different hop varieties and the complexities and flavors new strains can bring. That’s where hemp comes into the picture. Without getting too nerdy, we found a unique way to recreate hemp terpene flavors in a beer, which complement the inclusion of hop flavors and hemp hearts (seeds) in a brand new, delicious way—not to mention this beer is extremely dank! The flavors and aromas are so unique that it’s a style unto itself, hence HPA®.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear copper golden with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with pot and mega-dank hops, with a crisp biscuity malt base. Flavour is along the same lines, with tons of floral, hempy hops. Oily, dank and hempy. It's okay.

Bottle/Fest. A- Pine, cat pee. A- Gold color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Garlic, bitter. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Definitely dank and bitter. The most dank ever? I don't buy that but it is certainly for the hophead. Not a fan.

32oz crowler pours with a clear copper body that supports a tall firm light tan head of foam that leaves behind clumps of spotty lacing. Whoa. The aroma starts off just dank as can be and more a lit burning spicy dankness than anything else. Danky ash tray maybe. After a while notes of hemp rope and citrus notes are noticed. The taste delivers similar notes with bold danky to spicy dank notes backed up by wafer thin orange and tangelo juiciness. It just stays bold and dank right into the finish. This works. Might be the dankest beer I've had and I've had tons or 'em.

Strong weed and sumac nose.Clear amber, medium yellowish head, good lace. Weed, coriander, basil, sweet malt. Medium body, easy carbonation. Sweet malt clashes with the spicy floral hop bill, but very unique.

Surprised there aren't more ratings here, I guess its for that other generation which inhabit the social graces of UT. Smell like a cross between indica and sativa. Odd how in some beers, skunk is not desirable but in this its acceptable and even desirable. You know, think aged german pale lager in a green or clear bottle. Look is clear and mellow yellow with lots of bubbles sticking to the side of the glass. OK, after the initial aroma blast, this turns into another rude ipa once in yer face. Yes, big bitter ipa kick in the face, big booming uppercut. Its 7% and its advertising it to you in the flavor, fer sher, this is IPA terribly on style.

Grunt fill from WinCo. I can see where this would be a love it or hate it kind of beer. Pours out a hazy dark golden, small silky head, little bits of lacing. Big whopping fat hempy, weed aroma. Taste just comes in a little bit funky, dank bitterness, some malts, doesn't follow up to the big aroma. A little bit of bitterness lingers on and some more of the funky dank taste lingers on the tongue. Definitely not for the newbs, this is a pretty robust, pungent beer.

On tap and from a bottle. Pours out golden topped with a white head. Nose is crazy nice hops but if you stand like 5 feet from your glass it smells like a big skunky joint. Tatse is more of the nice hops some dank notes and a nice leaf note.

Ugh. This beer smells like shit. And it tastes like shit. I barely even want to say much more than that. Lightly skunky/catty/sulfurous in the nose, also wet cat. Flavor similar but very bitter, astringent, and gross. It looks OK, and has a decent mouthfeel. But this is one of the worst beers I've ever had. What the fuck New Belgium?
