The Cask, named for the Poe short story The Cask of Amontillado, is a dark, smooth, malty, full-bodied & robust beer with toasty malt, toffee notes that one expects from a barrel aged beer (but it is not) and warms the insides from its 8% abv. Best when served in a snifter glass.

Draft at Main St Bottle Shop in Rock Hill. Confusingly called Edgar Allen Poe the Cask on Untappd. More confusingly stated there to be brewed at Baltimore Washington Beer Works, which Ratebeer thinks is in Hamburg Germany. Whatever. I hope this review is in the right place. Dark clear brown. Aroma of licorice and herbs. Taste is herbal spice and roast. Weird

Bottle @ home. Clear dark amber to amber-brown color, average to medium sized off-white to beige head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, dark dried fruits, raisins. Taste malts, raisins, dark fruits, dried fruits, some caramel notes, dark malts, a touch of brown candy sugar. Decent to medium body and carbonation. Quite nice, quite solid. I like it, very well executed imo.

Dark brown with quick fading head. Aroma and flavour have lots of sweet malts and dried fruit like raisins. Also some milk chocolate and caramel. It's not too sweet though.

Dark caramel in color with a shirt head. Brown sugar, toasted malts, caramel, earth, and pleasant hops on the side. Finish is sweet with light bitterness. Medium bodied. Very nice.

C: Fast gone cream-coloured head over deep dark cola-coloured beer. 4/5 N: Sweet, bready, liquorice, parsley, candi syrup. 6/10 T: More dark bread, liquorice, leafy; much less sweet than the nose suggested, however, partly thanks to a fine CO²-induced acidity. Breadcrust, light roast. Nice balance! 7/10 MF: Medium bodied at best, spritzy carbonation. Served cold, almost refreshing. 3/5 O: Not too sweet Doppelbock, good. But if they wanted really to get in the Poe spirit, instead of just wordplay, why not age it in an Amontillado cask for real? 14/20

Bottle. Pours hazy dark copper brown with stable tan head. Clear aroma of pumpkin, malt and yeast, with fruity notes and touches of spice. Sourish flavour of pumpkin, with sweetish notes of malt, yeast and barrel. Hints of hops and vanilla. Acidic and estery aftertaste. Good.

Confusing name but draft at Peabody. Dark brown color. No head on this. Aroma is malt syrup, earthy and no hops. Mouthfeel is slightly undercarbonated. Sweet sryup, not big and not very lagery.
