The Cask, named for the Poe short story The Cask of Amontillado, is a dark, smooth, malty, full-bodied & robust beer with toasty malt, toffee notes that one expects from a barrel aged beer (but it is not) and warms the insides from its 8% abv. Best when served in a snifter glass.

On tap at the BNA Party last week. Deep ruby brown color with a stingy off white head. Rich syrupy fruitiness with some burnt caramel and hint of alcohol. Pretty nice dopplebock.

Bottle from Cindy’s Spirits. On the money doppelbock, could use a nudge in the "lasting head" department, but all else is right on. Molasses/brown sugar sweetness permeate both aroma and taste, nice slick body. Elements of maple syrup, rum and raisins. Cheers to this brewery’s output!

Some roast and dark chocolate. Thick consistency. Black pour with mocha head and lacing. Light bitter finish with some sweetness. A hint of booze. Pleasant, easy to drink. Bottle.

Bottle thanks to Nolen! Pours clear reddish black with a small creamy tan head that slowly dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is dark sugars, biscuit, molasses. Flavor follows, bread with lots of dark sugars and a bit of a hoppy bite. Medium sweet and fairly bitter, with a lingering bittersweet finish. Pumpernickel breads, burned caramel. Medium body, creamy, perhaps a bit acidic. Medium carbonation. Some heat from the ABV. Pretty decent.
