The roots go back to a tavern, which can be proven in Stein as early as 1300. It had a change of tenants in 1489, and it can be assumed that beer from the Stein brewery was already being served at this time. In 1890 the Stein Castle and with it the brewery became the property of Count Joseph zu Arco Zinneberg. The Counts Arco-Zinneberg are the last noble owners of Stein Castle. At that time, the Stein brewery was one of the most important breweries in all of Upper Bavaria. The building of a new brewery, as it is today, also took place at this time.
In 1934 the castle brewery was taken over by Max and Ilse Wiskott as well as Otto Coninx and has remained a family-owned private brewery to this day. The Schlossbrauerei Stein today offers a wide range of Bavarian beer specialties, true to the purity law of 1516 and traditionally brewed according to old recipes.
The raw materials such as barley malt and wheat malt from Chiemgau region and hops from Hallertau are selected and adjusted for each individual type of beer. Thanks to the art of brewing and the latest technology in the filling area, we guarantee our Steiner beer specialties: a unique character and exquisite taste.
