The legendary Green Man has existed for centuries but it’s no myth that he’s been brewing great beer in Asheville since 1997. As one of North Carolina’s original breweries, Green Man has been producing some of the beer scene’s most iconic ales. Our offerings are consistently recognized for quality as well as loyalty to traditional English styles. Additionally, our brewers strive to bring innovative and exciting new flavors to beer loving folks.

Now open! Continuing our evolution we have constructed a 3 story, 20,000 square ft., packaging hall, a “brewtique”, and an indoor/outdoor top floor taproom that overlooks production and the Blue Ridge Mountains! It is right here on the South Slope, next to “Dirty Jack’s” (which is still open) and our production brewery.

Can from Midtown. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Lots of overripe orange and lemon notes on the nose. Some wet cardboard notes as it warms. More old malt flavors. Quite watery and thin on the palate. Unbalanced and really not good at all. Likely an old can.

Raspberry color with pink foam. Aroma is berries. Flavor is sweet tart, not overly acidic, with raspberry sour finish

Pour is a black with a large creamy tan head. Aroma is a decent enough roast and char malt combo. Flavor is more roasted malt with a cola like sweetness bringing up the rear. Finish is quite dry and chalky. Adequate dry stout.

Copper color with creamy tan head that lasts. Bread aroma. Nice balance of toasted malt, caramel sweetness, and crisp hop bitterness. Not overly hoppy, sweet at the end.

2017 bottle from Bruisin' Ales. Pours opaque brown (or clear dark ruby against strong light) with a creamy tan head. Aroma of treacle, dark fruits, hint of chocolate. Full bodied indeed. Very malty - not at all towards dry. Dark treacle. Darkish fruits. A bit earthy/woody/yeasty. Could be/seems to be some chocolate coating the tongue in the finish. Heat is barely detectable. Belongs in the family of Fuller's Old Vintage Ales, perhaps as the malty uncle. Really quite delicious.

$3.30 2018 bottle (11%) from Wine Warehouse. Pours murky orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is chocolate, barrel, earth. Flavor is chocolate, bourbon, earth, wood, spice, caramel, light char.

$3.25 bottle, WW. Pours thick and black, small brown head. Aroma is sweet chocolates, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee. Flavor is sweet chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, slightly burnt malt, toast. Really good stuff. Thick in the mouth - really nice.

On tap at Green Man, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted bready caramel, light oak, and red fruits. Flavour is robust and well-balanced, with red fruits, toasted caramel and bready malt. Nicely balanced, without much brutality from the barrels. Very good.
