12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark chestnut color with a medium brown head. A light nose of caramel, toast and chocolates. Smooth, chocolates, toast, a bit of fruity hops, very drinkable. Sweet almost salty finish. Solid beer. Very nice.

From a bot.Quite dark. Smell of lightr roasted grains, decent olfactory fer sure. Taste is mild St. Mary’s roasted old damp washed out flutes of aged campfire wood. Good stuff. Mild, civilized and easy going, quite nice and amicable for a darker brewed beer, very like-able in this age of impressively rude high alky impy stouts. Comes across like a very happy mild stout or a friendly un impressive schwartz beer. Borders on american dark lager in attitude. Great job straub!

Sampled on draft at the Headkeeper this beer poured a dark brown color with orange highlights and a small foamy tan head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was medicinal with cola and strange off ripe fruits. The flavor was tart and bitter with molasses, dark fruits, a hint of gingerbread and a medicinal presence. Long finish. Medium body. Meh

Had a free bottle of this during the straub brewery tour. Clean and fresh lager looking thang. Good co2, has a decent, almost bright attitude. At first I was a little surprised on the amount of bitter personality, but then the impression gets a little more behaved. Finished quite hay like, the attribute of straub lager. Yes, at first I didn’t like this but thru the session it became more redefined and acceptable.

On tap & free at the eternal tap. Big fresh bubblegum and banana aroma. Taste is the same. Fresh bubble gum and banana. Quite good! Lots of foam on the head of this one, keg must have been getting low, it was spitting. Yes, could not feel or taste the original straub attributes in this one. Quite acceptable and friendly fer sure. Glad to have the chance to taste this baby, very pleased. IMHO a very good example of the style, refine and civilized, yesserrie.

Fresh from the eternal tap at the brewery. Neutral smell. Taste is a little cloying at first, like most good Vienna. Decent amount of CO2 here baby. Malty bitterness and carries with it a slight medicinal feel about it. Medicinal effects linger on the finish as well.

At the brewery. The Straub person @ straub told me this was the same recipe as the regular IPL, harvest was just a moniker for the time. Nice big glass from the eternal tap. Golden and clear. Scummy head and one taste lets you know this is an ill behaved lager. Straubs answer to double ipa. Barely any aroma. But the first taste is giant kicking dull hops, not in little pointed jabs but a wave of rude dull bitterness. Nice lacing. Yes, borders on rude ipa fer sure. Highly hopped lager, will not let go. not like a sharp pilser, more like ipa mixed with hoppy lager. Not impressed. What ever happened that gentle and well behaved Mr Straub? That dutchboy snuck one in on us!

Bottle. Light corn and barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet corn syrup and barley malt flavor. Light bitter hay finish. One of the featured beers at the 1983 GABF - must have sucked being a beer drinker back then. Luckily I waited until 1984 to start.

Bottle: Pours clear gold with a small, white head. Slight grain scent. Taste is honeyed, barley malt. That’s about it..... Nothing awful, just a rather dull, grassy plain lager...............watery.
