About
First and foremost, Mike & Cathy opened Laurelwood as a reflection of what they wanted in a neighborhood restaurant. As the parents of young children, they wanted a family friendly environment that did not end and begin with being simply offered a high chair. As native Pacific Northwesterners, it was important to support our local farmers and purveyors & to support sustainability and the organic movement. As neighbors, it was important to create a place where friends and families could meet to have a relaxed dinner and a couple of drinks that supported their community. These are the factors that are most important to us and really help set us apart from other brewpubs and dining establishments.

Admin Note: In 2019, Laurelwood Brewing Co. was acquired by Legacy Breweries, Inc., parent company of Aspen Brewing and Ninkasi.

This was described as a fresh hop festbier. If that’s true it explains the hop forward profile of this brew. Golden with a white head. Aroma is very hop forward with grass leading the charge. A bit of malt sweetness but then punched with the hops again. The hop profile is unlike an IPA or Pilsner and I’m not entirely sure how to describe it. This isn’t a bad brew but it also isn’t an Oktoberfest in any traditional sense. Interesting but one was enough.

Bottle picked up at a Safeway in Washington. Pours out a clear amber with medium sized foamy head. Rye dominates the aroma, musty, funky sour smell. Taste brings more rye, with a little honey sweetness. It all finishes up with a fair amount of hop bitterness, sharp and dry.

Draft pour pint at the safe. Pours a clear copper color with a lasting fizz head. Rich sweet tropical fruit hop aroma and flavor. Almost has a little pineapple thrown in there. Orange fruit. A little sweet for my usual taste but overall an enjoyable, solid IPA.

Pours clear dark golden with a medium sized off-white head, good lacing. Aroma is grassy, earthy and grapefruit. Taste is floral, caramel, earthy and grassy, bitter resin
A decent IPA, but don’t think I’d buy another.

On tap at The Horse Brass Pub. Pours a cloudy orange gold with medium creamy white head that lasts. The aroma is strong wheat, dough, sea salt. Medium mouth, dry, wheat, light salt, crushable, very good.

Nitro, Pumphouse Pub. Medium brown. Thick nitro head. Has a vanilla, coffee character and so much nitro it’s practically ice cream. This ends up knocking bitterness out of it, to the detriment of balance.

On tap at Bailey's, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of hop oils, some resin and pine. Flavour is similar, bringing out lots of hop oils, as well as candied fruits. Too much residual sugar. This isn't very expertly brewed. Off the mark.
