Description
First and foremost, Mike & Cathy opened Laurelwood as a reflection of what they wanted in a neighborhood restaurant. As the parents of young children, they wanted a family friendly environment that did not end and begin with being simply offered a high chair. As native Pacific Northwesterners, it was important to support our local farmers and purveyors & to support sustainability and the organic movement. As neighbors, it was important to create a place where friends and families could meet to have a relaxed dinner and a couple of drinks that supported their community. These are the factors that are most important to us and really help set us apart from other brewpubs and dining establishments.

Admin Note: In 2019, Laurelwood Brewing Co. was acquired by Legacy Breweries, Inc., parent company of Aspen Brewing and Ninkasi.

Bomber from Taniguchi. Made with Portland Roasting Coffee this beer pours a deep inky black with a thick tan head and has a nice sweet espresso aroma that gives a touch of fruits and roast character.

Medium to Full bodied with a scratchy carbonation. The taste is a somewhat acrid dark bitter roasted coffee, some chocolate and a bit of lactose sweetness in the finish. A good beer to sip on a cold winter afternoon.

Second beer on my second flight in Devilicious, Temecula California on 10th Feb 2017. red hue to the amber pour, on top an off-white head of tight bubbles. Malty molasses in the nose with caramel esters winning the individual stakes. Taste is semi-sweet and again malty and caramel dominating the flavour as well as the aroma. My sweet tooth liked it.

Bottle from Brewers Haven. Pours out clean and clear, soft fluffy head. Aroma favors the grains, while taste had the right amount of hop bite, crisp without being overpowering. There’s hope for the American pilsener yet.

Bomber from work. Aroma is strong in pumpkin pie spices like nutmeg, clove, maybe cinnamon, bread crust. Pours hazy amber with a medium cream-colored head with decent retention and a little lace. Taste is just like pumpkin pie with some beery hop bitterness thrown in. It’s a little like Pumking in it’s similarity to pumpkin pie or pumpkin bread, but it also has a significant hoppy bitterness to play off the sweetness. This is an excellent pumpkin beer, standing out from the majority out there.

Bottle: Poured an orangey color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrus and light grapefruit notes with some bitter notes. Taste is a good mix of grapefruit and citrusy hops with some bitter hoppy notes and light residuals sugar notes with some good malt presence. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nothing earth shattering and maybe tad more bitter then I would like but still good overall.

Fliptop liter from Belmont Station. Pours dark hazy copper with a white smear. Aroma of brown sugar with a bourbon note. Med body or better. Flavor is bourbon, brown sugar, and some wood. Really quite pleasant. Undry finish, but it’s not too sweet. Nice drink.
