Description
Mike Hess Brewing is one of the premier craft breweries of San Diego. We set out with a mission to bring people together over great beer and were early on in the craft beer revolution. We were the region’s 33rd brewery back in 2010 when our first location, then a nano-brewery, in Miramar was opened. Now, in our 10th year, we have 5 locations in California, including the “OG” spot, which has since tripled in size!

Sampled from the tap at the North Park location. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a combination of citrus and rye with some earthy pine underlying. Flavor has a good amount of citrus and rye with a growing bitterness through the finish.

Can 473ml (with open top, Beer Republic, date messed _/10/2017)
Dark amber color, small steady off-white head and lace. Ryeish aroma has odd ice-cream feeling in the nose. Medium-bodied. Resiny, piney, some citrus, rye is noticeable. Dryish finish. Could be freshier. Tolerable.

Nice crisp golden coloured body with a nice, three centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of very fresh hops with a tropical fruit and grassy notes with a little bit of perfume and a touch of sticky malts. Medium-bodied; Strong bitter hop flavour at first with a deep grassy and herbal note along with some lighter grapefruit and tropical fruit flavour right behind, all with a good malt backbone with some light sweetness as well. Aftertaste shows some grass, hay, resin and a lot of grapefruit and pine hoppiness that shows through everything without much sweetness at all. Overall, a very nice beer, decidedly a West Coast IPA with a great balance and defined hop character of resin and grapefruit and a proper complexity near the end with a touch of sweetness. Great to sample and well worth trying to find and drinking fresh! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint sized can with the great open top lid, purchased from Total Beverage in Thornton, Colorado yesterday on 04-June-2017 for US$2,62 sampled a day later in my hotel room in Cheyenne, Wyoming on 05-June-2017.

This beer is a cloudy orange color with a medium frothy white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrusy hops, pine and malt. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, grapefruit and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a fruity hop aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

US pint can @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours a misty golden yellow, good white head. Vibrant grapefruit, citric zest aroma. Taste is fresh and fruity, zesty citric orange, good malt presence, nice bitter edge. My first Mike Hess beer and doesn’t disappoint.

Bottle to glass. Moderately hazy yellow with white head. Refreshing fruit and noble hops. Overt tartness balanced well. Pomegranate in the flavor.
