Description
Mike Hess Brewing is one of the premier craft breweries of San Diego. We set out with a mission to bring people together over great beer and were early on in the craft beer revolution. We were the region’s 33rd brewery back in 2010 when our first location, then a nano-brewery, in Miramar was opened. Now, in our 10th year, we have 5 locations in California, including the “OG” spot, which has since tripled in size!

Can shared in London - thanks to Daniel. Pours totally clear gold with a creamy, white head. The nose has pleasant, lightly ripened citrus. Lange, hints of pine, pale bread. Medium sweet flavor with more citrus fruits, tangerine, grapefruit, some grain, oily pine. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, a little resinous, more pale bread, rindy citrus. Good stuff.

(Draught at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, 19 Feb 2016) Amber colour with creamy, off-white head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with toast, apricots and orange. Malty taste with notes of apricots, toast, orange peel and a gentle citric bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced, but on the shy side. Quite nice.

Draught @ Beer Temple. Clear dark amber color, medium sized off-white head that diminishes fairly quickly but leaves good lacing. Not a lot of aroma other than malts. Taste malts, grainy, moderately bitter. Average body and carbonation.

Can from The Bottle Shop London and drunk at home. Quite a smooth beer, not over carbonated or fizzy. Some sweetness but not too much, a little spicy rye maybe, some good balanced hops, no idea it’s 8% abv. it’s very drinkable. Impressive double ipa. Good hops, good balance, some bitterness, but it’s just really drinkable.

Can from Beets. Hazy golden/amber body with a thick off-white head. Low carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of caramel, peppery hops and pine. Flavour of pineapple, blood orange and honey. Medium body with an oily texture. Light fizz. Nice, but I expected a bit more depth and complexity for the strength.
