Can from Bine & Vine. Pours brassy gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is a bit dank with rye spiciness. Med body or better. Flavor is rye, mild caramel, and some earthiness. Lots of flavor here. Finishes slightly sweet malt with a lot of bittering hop that offsets that. Very tasty.

Growler picked up at Huss. It pours with a deep clear copper body that has gold edges and supports a full tan head. The aroma offers up sweet gummy bear like citrus and apricot and then it slides into some resiny hop bitterness that is leaning toward a grapefruit note. The taste is full and firm with unwavering hoppy goodness. I get sweet juicy tangelo and orange wedges that are surrounded by resiny pine and bitter grapefruit hops. This is both juicy and firmly bitter. As it warms a floral hop note starts to surface. Solid IPA.

This Hess beer was growlered up at Huss in Tempe, AZ. It pours with a clear deep copper body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up a good load of sweet fruity esters where I’m getting things such as prunes and raisins mixed with a dash of banana. Behind the fruitiness is a bit of roasted malts and a sweet maltiness. The taste is up front sweet with prunes and raisin like fruity esters. To midway mild notes of roasted malts and sweetened rye bread as well as a sort of vague spicy hoppiness come to the surface. This is a bit too sweet for me. Nice body though.

Two at the brewery - San Diego. Pours black-brown with a dense, creamy mocha brown head. The aroma holds charred and lightly tangy wood, a bit of dark chocolate, some rich coffee. Medium sweet flavor with lightly ashy roast, scorched earth bitterness, wood, coffee, bittersweet baking cocoa. Full bodied with fine carbonation and a chewy texture. Warming finish with lots of burnt malts and wood, tar, coffee grounds, bittersweet baking cocoa. Pretty big and bold though does have some grace.

Tap at the brewery - San Diego. Pours deep brown with a thick, creamy mocha head. The aroma holds a lovely mix of chocolate, roasted malts and autumnal spices and pumpkin. Medium sweet flavor with dark malts, good roast, light smoke and minerals, restrained pumpkin and spices, hints of burnt meat. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and creamy texture. Sweet finish with a bit of bitter torched earth, burnt wood, baking cocoa, dried pumpkin, nutmeg. Well balanced and dynamic.

Tap at the brewery - San Diego. Pours clear, pale yellow with a moderate, creamy white head. Dry biscuity malts in the nose with touches of hay and flowers. Light sweet flavor with further dry biscuits, light bitter hay, hints of apples, pale bread. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Pretty well balanced to finish, light dried grains, cereal, hay, biscuits, faint floral and grassy bitterness. Nice.

Tap at the brewery - San Diego. Pours clear yellow with a large, frothy virginal white cap. Crisp and doughy biscuits in the nose, white bread, light cereal. Light sweet flavor with further white bread, cereal, mellow straw bitterness, hints of lemon meringue. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Crisp finish, more lightly dried biscuits, white bread, straw, faint lemon creme. Lovely kolsch. Simple and wonderfully drinkable.
