Served ice cold and fresh from tap a sunny day at the waterfront in Madeira. The occasion might have some influence here, but I find it rather decent and refreshing like most other macro lager when served at the right premises without any faults. Nothing special, nothing extra, just another thirst quencher but nothing wrong. Would not do any effort to taste it again, but if the choice where between this and Heineken, Carlsberg etc, and I was in Madeira I would go for the local one.

Fresh bottle in apartment, Funchal. Clear, dark brown, not far from black body with a nice, lacing tan head. Aroma has mild, smooth dark roasted malt with a hint of licorice. Flavor is also quite smooth with mild roasted dark malt, rye bred, dark chocolate and hint of coffee. Moderate but distinct bitterness. Medium body and decent aftertaste. Nothing very special going on here and no stout at all as the label says, but a tasty, smooth, easy drinkable black lager that goes extremely well down a hot summer day.

330 mL bottle from the grocery store. Pours black, with a small, foamy, beige head. The nose is mild instant coffee, nutmeg, chalk, and pipe tobacco. Sweet and malty, with a quality, earthy bitterness. Light to medium body, crisp, and a bit grainy. Good balance and no off flavors. Remarkably quality, light, tropical stout.

Draft at the banana museum. Pours a hazy-ish, yellow color, with a fair, frothy, white head. Bright banana (surprise!), cloves, apple juice, and lemongrass. Sweet and estery, with a mild acidity. Light body, biting, and clean. Fun.

Draft at the Mercado dos Lavradores, in Funchal. Pours black, with a big, bubbly, foamy, beige head. Awful coffee, soy, pumpernickel, and bitter almond. Sweet and acrid, with a rough bitterness. Light, slick and acidic. Genuinely terrible.
