Tap @ Equinox. Deep brown/black appearance with a light tan head. Mild earthy hoppy, mild dark malty nose. Slightly soapy, mild roasty dark malts, earthy hoppy flavor with a pretty bitter finish and aftertaste.

Firkin at the brewery - this one dances that fine line between the roasted malt and the intense, piney character of the hops - sweet at first, but quickly dries out, bringing some green, earthy, bitter hops that are very well integrated with the bitterness of the black malt - lingering pine and bitterness long into the finish, as well as a hint of smoke - well done.

Pour a clear dark orange, nearly amber - nose and flavor are full of tropical fruits - grapefruit, passionfruit, apricot - a sturdy malt base underneath adds just enough heft - surprisingly low on the bitterness, but with copious earthy hop flavor - nicely balanced, with only a small amount of alcohol showing - pretty good.

Very dark chestnut color - impressive lace - very dry and tart, bordering on sour - not of raisin, fig, cocoa, roasted nuts, a lot of clove - a bit of toffee sweetness lingers far in the back - mild acidity in the finish, with lingering clove and a hint of tobacco leaf - I can see how others might not like it, as it is not true to style and is a bit sour - I actually like my dunkelweizens sour, though - decent beer.

Ugh - seriously overly bitter Scottish ale here - the golden promise is earthy - some light peaty phenols - bitterness and earthiness completely clashes with the caramel and toffee sweetness - very present alcohol, despite the strength - nothing comes together here.

On tap @ Equinox. Pours a ruby orange appearance with a light brown head. Quite sweet, caramel, toffee, slightly boozy nose. Very sweet caramel malty, toffee, some burnt notes, mild to moderate boozy flavor. Caramelized malty, toffee aftertaste. I enjoyed this a little more the second time around, though it is a little syrupy.

On tap @ brewery. Amber brown appearance with an off white head. Nutty, toffee, roasty caramel malty nose. Toffee, light espresso, hazelnut, toasty, caramel malty flavor. Toasty toffee aftertaste. Great session beer.

On tap @ brewery. Slightly hazy, golden yellow appearance with a pretty small, white head. Piney, bushy hoppy nose. Pretty potent piney, organic hoppy flavor. Bitter, piney aftertaste.

Terribly overly sweet, with caramelized sugars, toffee, caramel, burnt marshmallow - boiled vegetable notes behind this intense sweetness - acidity in the finish - alcohol burn lingers on the end - sticky and messy.

A nicely balanced ipa, with a full, medium sweet malt backbone that is tempered nicely by an earthy, moderately acidic, medium bitter hop profile - some dry toasted graininess - lingering toffee sweetness is balanced by assertive lingering bitterness - pretty good.
