Interesting malt profile in this ipa - almost barley wine-ish character, with moderate esters, medium sweet, sticky malts, earthy oats, caramel, toffee - moderate acidity in the middle - hops are woody, peppery, earthy - lingering toasty malt finish - a bit of an "everyday" beer for celebrating an anniversary, but I wont hold that against it - tasty. 748415

Lightly hazy copper - rich but dry maltiness - a lot of toasted bread character - light esters - buttered toast - a bit of hop spiciness on the tail end - a bit too much apparent alcohol in the finish, but otherwise fairly nice.

A bone dry hefe, just like I like βem - turbid pour that lacks much of a head - taste is moderately tangy, with only mild clove - most of the phenols lean toward the peppery, spicy side, which is fine by me - moderate yeastiness - notes of sage - tangy lemon - moderate acidity - decent.

Tap at Equnox - hazy amber - the cab and bourbon barrels dominate this one - a lot of spicy oak, vanilla, mild vinous qualities - but instead of adding nuance, they make things messy - yeast profile is doughy - a lot of sharp esters - seriously strong, astringent alcohol - inelegant and hard to drink.

Tap at Equinox - seems a lot like their oatmeal stout brewed with a different yeast - very bitter and highly roasty, with a pronounced ashy character - smooth at first, with a distinct lagered quality, but much like the oatmeal stout, it has an odd acidity that almost works with the mild esters in the background, but not quite - rough but drinkable.

Tap at the brewery - dark brown - a touch of sweetness along the lines of molasses up front, but it dries out fast - smooth oat character is offset by bitter black malt, and ashy character and a bit of acidity - rough edges need to be smoothed out.

Tap at the brewery - dry and toasty - a bit of biscuit character - peppery hops and a light earthiness - a bit of a buttery quality - nutty malt - a nice balance, but still a bit spicy for the style - okay.

Sample at the brewery and now from a growler - clear golden pour with a moderate ring of soapy lace - aroma is bright, dry, crisp, with spicy and floral noble hop character and light esters - high carbonation, but fairly creamy in body for the style - medium body - a bit of honey sweetness up front, but this is quickly pushed aside by dry grains and a light mineral character, followed quickly by loads of spicy noble hops that hang around on the palate through the long, crisp, dry finish - touches of vegetable and diacetyl hide far in the back, but are noticeable if you are paying close attention as it warms - once they iron out the flaws, they will have a kick-ass pils here.

Sample at the brewery - medium amber beer - kind of amazing that all the color is from caramelized sugar rather than malts - this adds an interesting quality to the beer - initially, there is a fair amount of tartness in the flavor, with quite a bit of fruity esters - the middle has a lot of spicy character from the yeast, as well as a moderate toasty character - mildly floral - sweetness from the sugars arrives late, but it is very clean and balanced - hints of raisin and cherry in the finish - well-balanced - maybe a bit less sweetness and it would be awesome.

Sample at the brewery - dark amber beer - more of a malt-forward, sweety BdG - they clearly used an ale yeast in this, which is an odd choice, but the character is clearly of a dark BdG - semi-sweet notes of caramel at first, with slight diacetyl, which seems to be common in these darker BdGs for some reason - malts become drier and far more biscuity through the middle and finish - not nearly as estery as one would expect, probably due to the choice of yeast, so the semi-dry, biscuity malt and toasted grain character is really center stage here - pretty decent, actually.
