Compared to Penn St Nick and Nova Paka (Brewchek.) bock. 12 oz twist off cap., From Shiner TX, nice story on label. Pours darker than a lager but lighter than a real dark beer. Smells like any other bock - yeasty. Very good flaver with smooth personality of a dark lager. No hint of bitterness as with many bocks. Decent carbonation. Finish is a bit weak - but not offensive, possibly a hint of dishwater. This is more acceptable than many bock including St Nick and Brew Check.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a fizzy dark brown color with a small khaki head that faded quickly. The aroma was moderate roasty malts and a hint of chocolate. The flavor was tangy and bitter with a slightly roasty middle and a light dry chocolate element on the finish.

What a label. 12 oz twist off cap. I was waiting awhile to taste this. Clean city water aroma, perhaps a bit metallic. Taste is lagerlike with a metallic hint. Good palate, nice carbonation. Finish is not offensive but has a bit of lingering alcohol. A little rough for a hefe. Rates there with Penn Weizen.

Bottle. A very bready malt aroma with hints of ripe bananas. Clear reddish brown color with moderate head. Syrupy sweet malt flavor with hints of cherry and banana - a bit cloying. Could start a new style - Kristall dunkelweizen - as this is obviously filtered. A nice tasting beer overall and a decent American version of the style.

Pour is a nice black with a small tan head. Aroma is a slight roasty but not much else comes to the surface. Flavor is decent with lots of chocolate and coffee. Finish is a bitter coffee with a thick mouthfeel. Pretty decent especially for Shiner.

Freshly broken wood or bark aroma. Delicious turpentine tastedbud initial whammy. Appears nice transparent brown in my steeler stein. Finish is medium carbonation with just a slight (if any) bitter aftertaste.

Pours a dark purplish red, then sits nearly black with a smallish fast head. Aroma seems unusually restrained with some caramelization, a little cocoa, and a metallic note that hints of hops. Flavor features quite a bit of smoke and roast malts. Doesn’t really remind me of schwarzbier, more like an ordinary dark lager with smoke. Could be a good partner to certain foods, possibly pizza, or cured meats. Mouthfeel is medium to light, leading to a semi-dry finish. Hops simply not apparent.

Not bad. Reminds me of a weizenbock. There is caramel aroma and very light wheat. A little thin and brown but no sediment. A little sweet but lacks the characteristics of a good wheat beer.

Pale yellow-gold color with a fizzy thin white head that disspates quickly. Lacing is pretty much nonexistent. Light aroma of straw and corn. Light-bodied with vaugue grassy hops, malt and corn flavors. The finish is effervescent and lightly bitter. Although it is not a bad beer, it is kind of a wet blanket all around.
