Description

The first written records of the brewery in Protivín date back to 1540. In 1711, it became the property of the Schwarzenberg noble family, where it remained for more than two hundred years. During the Schwarzenberg era, a beautiful brewhouse with copper boilers was built, including an atypical wort pan in the shape of a square, where beer is still brewed to this day. South Bohemian water from its own wells, traditional way of brewing and skills of South Bohemia are for decades the basis of beer brewed here, known under the brand Platan.

In 2008 the brewery became part of the Pivovary Lobkowicz Group.

(Keg at Soldaten Svejk, 20160324) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma was mild and had sweetness and butter. Palate was rather light bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, malts, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was thin and bitter. A very watery brew.

Tap @ Prague Beer Museum. Nice head with good suration. Color is dark brown. Aroma and taste are roast malt, caramel, notes of chocolate and little hops

Bottle from Tesco in Brno. Deep golden colour, quickly disappearing head. Heavy metallic aroma and flavour, dull bitterness, almost no hops flavour. Raw grainy flavour and finish. Average.
