About
The story of America’s Oldest Brewery began when David G. Yuengling arrived from Wuerttemberg, Germany, to settle in the sleepy, coal-mining town of Pottsville, Pennsylvania. In 1829 he established the Eagle Brewery on Centre Street. In 1832 a fire destroyed the brewery and a new brewery is build at its current locationon Mahantongo Street.

Bottled. Black colour, mediumsized brown bubblyish foamy head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, smoke and some hops. Flavour is roasted malts, coffee, some slight chocolate and some caramel. Some slight bittering hops in finish. Hoppy and roasted aftertaste. Smooth and pleasant.

Draft. Light toffee malt and straw aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Lightly sweet barley malt and mildly bitter hay flavor. Decent body. Pretty good for a light beer - might make this a regular now that it is available in Indiana (the last time the state got this excited about beer was when they finally started selling Coors in-state in the early 90s). Much better on draft than the bottle I had in the past.

Oh yuengling black and tan, my dear economy favorite. The price for what you get makes you simply a best buy. 70 cents for a 16 oz can at JR’s beer world in Rochester. Untill I tasted Mackeson xxx, this was my standard. This is a brown 12 oz twist off bottle that says it’s porter mixed with premium beer. Pop the lid to reveal an aroma of boiled vegetable, and I’m not talking about corn, it’s more like greens, spinach or broccoli. However, once you pour it into the stein, it smells roastier than anything. Nice dark brownish orange color that light barely penetrates with a dark brown/red hue. Has a roasty porter flavor with a background that is common of yuengling beers. Very gentleman like in the taste, well behaved. Nice, dark, creamy and tasty. It lacks the bitter hops astringentness of many porters but the benefits that hops contribute are well placed. Finish is very gentle and well appreciated. There is enough lingering bite to let you know you are drinking real beer but not the terrible lasting bitterness so prevalent with less refined porters and stouts. A best buy in the dark beer arena.

Managed to cnvince one of my friends to purchase a case of this instead of whatever cheap beer she was intending to purchase at first. The beer pours a nice dark color with a head that descends a little bit more quickly than some other porters. This beer was a little bit more thin than a more robust porter, but at the same time it was not at all on the watery side of life. Overall, not a bad beer (porter or otherwise) and it is easy to drink a lot of as well.

Botlle. LIght smokey chocolate malt aroma. Dark brown amber color with small head. LIght chocolate malt flavor - get more tan than black out of this. Not a bad tasting beer, just little porter characteristics with this.

I found this beer to be particularly poor. Skunky aroma, so strong in fact that the others sitting around me could smell it from over 3 feet away. I think I was just expecting a bit more from Yuengling in this beer.

I didn’t get why they called this a premium. It doesn’t taste any better than normal Yuengling, as I had both of them side by side. True it is different a little bit, so that is a refreshing change sometimes. Not great, but cheap and definately drinkable.

It tastes like the lager, but with less flavour and less alcohol. Unless you like the fact that this has low calories, there is no reason to choose this above the far superior lager.

This is my father’s beer of choice, as such I have drank it more than virtually any other beer out there. It has its pluses, like the high alcohol content and the fact that it is better than most macro brews, but it is ultimately a watery beer with not enough flavour. Fortunately, the beer masks the high alcohol pretty well. Little hops and goodness. Who knows, maybe I am just sick of it.

A very standard beer, with an amber color and an average taste. The hops are not overpowering, but definatlely noticable. This beer is priced about the same as macro brews and is a whole lot better, so when there is a choice between this and Bud, I think that the choice is really clear. Not a bad beer for not a bad price, unfortunately ony available a lot in Philly and surrounding areas.
