Updating: I think I was too overly impressed with this previously. Its not in the same league as, say, Anchor Porter, regardless of my prev 4.6 rating. It does have a nice roasted character, but a tinge of harshness and its also a bit on the thin side. Bottom-fermenting yeast give it an unusual cleanness for the style.

How sad it is that such a good brewery that makes such a good and successful 'Traditional Lager' and a really good 'Dark Porter' would stoop to making this unnecessary trash. Why oh why did they make this stuff that doesn't even differ appreciably from mega-factory-lager. Updated comments with higher rating: I still don't like this beer but its not as complete trash as I recall. In fact it actually *is* a bit of a step up from mega-lager. Hops detectable. Finish is clean and decent.

A very slight skunk smell (it came in a very pale green bottle). Flavor was nicely balanced, getting sweeter as you finish. Fizzy and golden. Competent.

As I understand, this is a mix of the porter and the Premium. I've heard some good things about, which is why I was so disappointed upon trying it the other night (fresh on draught). Thin with not much flavor. It basically tasted like a watered down version of the porter - I'd rather just have the porter solo. Slight sour apple candy flavor was the only interesting trait.

Lagers are not my favorite style, esp American lagers - but Yuengling does a good job with this one. A very good and affordable alternative to other American macro lagers. Clean crisp lager flavor with a solid mouthfeel and body - not watery at all.
