Nice stuff, actually. Perhaps because I’ve been drinking too many lagers but this goes down right, Lots of roast and dark chocolate. Some coffee elements. Some raw barley grain. Doesnt go down badly at all, combines well with the spicy Ethiopian and injera. had at the ethiopian house in bottle.

11.2 oz bottle. Has a label that looks like it was pasted on with a kindergartner’s gluestick. Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow with a small white soapy head that falls into a ring and thin film of foam in about two seconds. Aroma is vomity, grainy. Taste is sweetish but it has a welcome bitter hop edge. Tastes a little corny and metallic. Highly carbonated. Not good, but there’s a lot worse out there.

Flacher, schwach gehopfter Antrunk. Später getreidig, wobei hier sofort ein metallernes Fehlaroma aufkommt. Dann wässrig, nur noch wenig getreidig. Laff, wenig spritzig. Zum Ende trocken. Trinkbares, aber überaus langweiliges Bier. 10/6/9/5/12/6

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. Judging from the color, saying it’s a stout is pushing the limits. It’s dark amber to light brown, clear and with a small, off-white head. Toffee, coffee and a buttery touch on the nose, some dried fruits. Flavorwise it’s much the same, roasted malts, toffee and dried fruits with a tiny buttery touch. A quite nice one, definitely nothing I’d expect from Ethiopia. 110129

Das Etheopian Restaurant, DC 11.2oz ($7): Pours a very non-stout color: mud brown with an off-white head. But, that is not a bad thing. This beer, like Harar in my opinion, is in a style of its own. Aroma is of roasted malts, some adjuncts, and plenty of sugar. Beer is pretty sweet, but not cloying. It was much easier to drink than I had anticipated. Roasted malts and molasses flavors are present throughout. A much better beer than I thought it would be. In my opinion Ethiopia does not have it too bad with their beer.

Bottle 330ml.Clear medium to dark red amber color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet malt, brown sugar, light roasted. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. [20110129]
