Draught @ the brewpub
Aroma has resiny malt and lactic sourness, also hints of toffee. Flavour has bready malt, some tart citron, mellow lactic tones, toffee and some resiny tones. Finishes with some menthol, lingering hops and cereal. Would not recognize this as Irish ale. The tart Koulu house aroma just does not fit here – and it takes over the whole bouquet at the middle of the glass.

Aroma is ’warm’ and spicy with some clove, gingerbread and peppery spices. Flavour has clove, peppery spices, some malt and toffee. Gets also some malty & bready tones as it warms up. In the background lurks the tart, grapefruit-like house aroma. Excluding that this is rather typical overspiced christmas brew. Feels somewhat thin for this ABV.

Aroma has rather sweet toffee candy. Also a slight feeling of house aroma in the background. Creamy and foamy palate. Flavour is rather weird and messy. It starts with sweet toffee, gets overridden by tartness typical to Koulu beers, turns to grapefruit and ends up dry with minerals leaving a watery feeling. Aroma was promising but flavour is just too messy and tart. Gets some unpleasant milky tones at the middle of the glass.

Draught @ The brewpub. Aroma has sweetish, ripe apples and apple peel. Feels slightly leathery. Flavour has ripe apples and some acidic white wine tones. Feels sweet at start and a bit watery in the finish. Somewhat leathery palate. A bit too sweet and harsh. Also starts to feel watery at the middle of the glass.

Mild smell of hops. Amber colour, beautiful creamy head. Mild aroma of earth, leaves, hops. Mildly bitter, also mildly sweet. Somewhat watery.

Tap at Oluttupa Viisi Penniä, Helsinki. Originally rated 01062012. Colour is brown with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Caramel, sweetness, some chocolate and roasted malts.
