Taster at GABS Auckland 2017. Pours black. Chocolate, milk, raspberry, my notes then have a profanity. Big chocolate sweet stout with a tonne of tart, sweet raspberry jam stuff. Absolutely delightful.

On tap at Vultures Lane. Pours opaque black with a nice fluffy head. Coffee, cherry, that acidity you get with coffee, chocolate, plums. Nice bitterness, slight acidity, little sweetness. Tasty.

Bottle. Black with a loose light tan head that’s soon less than a coat. Aroma of raspberries (not fantastic, but real and not remotely like a chocolate fish), dark sugars, some roast, chocolate. Medium bodied. And the taste banishes suspicions: nice raspberry, bittersweet chocolate, a little roast, firm bread, lightly spiced bitterness. Carelessly bought amongst a mixed 6 pack of GABS novelties, but one I’d very happily have again and a brewer to look out for. Fun, tasty, balanced.
