Description
We find that the best moments in life — the most memorable — are when we spend time in the company of those who are most important to us. Our beer and spirits are made for these moments.

It all started for us in 1997 when Brett VanderKamp believed that his hometown and the brewing industry were due for a shakeup. And so, New Holland Brewing Company was born in Holland, Michigan near the shores of Lake Michigan.

Today, New Holland is recognized as one of the leading innovators in the revolution of craft brewing and distilling. With nearly 500 team members, New Holland’s craft beer and spirits are sold across the country, and around the globe. Our retail presence continues to grow with two full-service restaurants, a spirits tasting room, two brick-and-mortar stores and an online store.

We look forward to finding moments to connect and enhancing the lives of people around the world.

Bottle, purchased July ’05. I keep focusing on the name and being surprised when this pours out a nice golden color, with a blush of red in the center. Aroma is a light syrup with overtones of medicinal alcohol. Extra strong taste, but not as “beery” as might be expected. Strange rubbery aftertaste, with notes of pear and apricot, then a strong suggestion of honey. My label does not mention the tulip petals, certainly can’t get any suggestion of it in this batch. Despite the distractions mentioned here, it’s a fine, heady drink, at least pleasing to the eye.

Deep amber/red coloured body with hardly any head. Aroma of fresh fruit, tart acids and a bit of strong malt. Medium to Full-bodied; Chunky malty mouthful with a strong malt presence and little else. Aftertaste shows a tiny bit of tartness and some sugars, but once again the malt is the strong character. Overall, a decent beer - not great - but it wasn’t expected at all. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 31 May 2005.

An orange beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet malty with some notes of honey. The flavor is very sweet with slight notes of grapefruit and a prickling very carbonated mouthfeel.

A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted combined with notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of coffee, and chocolate, as well as light wood notes. The finish is like a good bitter dark dessert chocolate.

Almost opaque black, not much head. Slightly hoppy aroma with strong milk chocolate presence. Not really strong nose. Chocolaty, medium-bodied, despite of roastiness a bit bland. Roasted aftertaste.

Bottled. Black colour, mediumsized brown head. Wonderful chocolaty, roasted malty aroma with hints of cream (fudge). Chocolate, roasted malt and some soapish hints in flavour. Also some wooden hints in flavour. The flavour is kind of weak link in this one though.

Pour is a very clear copper with a white head. Aroma is yeasty and doughy with some hops in there. Flavor is where this loses points. At first you notice the super sweet vinegar then comes the sour apple pucker at the swallow. This is not even close to a barley wine.

Nice light coloration with a minimal white head... Aroma is very fruity with a little bit of apple-type sweetness. Flavor starts off a little tart and then smooths out into sweeter fruit flavors.

Bottled. 2005 version. Very odd. Taste is deeply fruity, with sour cherries predominating. Really overruns any malt profile for me. I can see others get the same impression. Not a terrible beer, but I wonder if this is what they intended?

Bottled. Black, beige head. Rich chocolate aroma. Medium bodied and very roasty with filling mouthfeel. Dominated by the roasty malt. Lingering salty bitter finish. A concentrated beer, packed with flavour.
