Pours dark brown, nice beige head, persistent. You get all these chocolate beers in Japan as Valentine’s day gets closer. This one is looking nice. Aroma is sweetish, some molasses, milk chocolate and herbal cocoa. Taste feels actually somewhat boozy, which is weird for just 4,5% beer (labels is saying 4,5%, not 5,5%). Sweet, cocoa and I am also getting come milk cocoa candies that have alcohol filling. They taste nice, maybe too full of cocoa or too sweet but not really bothering me. Bitterness is also there, also overshadowed by this chocolaty booze - and something resembling malts is coming out in the aftertaste. Body is thin, even a bit watery - but still almost in balance. Overall, for some reason this beer makes me feel nostalgic, probably some Soviet sweets I used to eat as a kid tasted similar :) Paired this with cheese and it did a good work.

375mL bottle, undated, drunk 10/6/15.
Clear, slightly glassy liquid.
A touch of soft melon, very restrained coconut and a bit of perfume from the alcohol/esters. Dosent seem too boozey from the nose, nor does it gain much of it as it warms. That being said, lots of nuttiness and earthiness pervade the nose, giving it not a very complex aroma overall.
Light sweetness up front quickly gives way to melon, coconut and dry rice flavors that mix with some slightly sharp alcohol. On the drier side overall, with a medium-light body. Very low complexity, some obvious alcohol, but I did enjoy drinking it with food as it went down easy and wasn’t rampantly boozey. Certainly nothing special, but I’m happy to spend a little bit more money on this tier of sake instead of drinking Ozeki/gekkeikan/Momokawa.

Tap at Bankan. Hazy light brown with a small white head. Aromas of plum, apricot, green apple and grape. The plum really stands out though. Taste is more of the same with the muscat coming out a little. There is a slight sour undertone on the palate. Light body and refreshing finish.

lovely purple pink color. Malty, slightly sweet nose with tons of plum and slightly salty. The mouth is a bit too heavy and salty, but ok. The plum character is really well defined. Interesting

Belgian Stout on tap at Craft Beer Live 2015 5.5% a deep black with a thick beige head. The nose is sweet milk chocolate with a bit of cinnamon spiciness. Medium bodied with a fairly full mouthfeel. The taste is sweet syrupy chocolate, a bit of spice & some roasty bitterness. I like it.

Tap at Craft Beer Live 2015. Spicy chocolate and coffee nose, well used Belgian yeast. Nice chocolate flavors, rich malt, spicy yeast. Well put-together Belgian stout that opened up nicely as it warmed.

Tap at Craft Beer Live. Reddish-pink. Nose is plums. Flavor is a bit sweet and sugary, plums. There is a bit of tartness, but it lacks the good, solid tartness of a well make umeshu. Ok, should be a bit more radical.

Bottle At home another quick sake purchase in the hectic life of Jow. Pours nice and clear. Nose is pear and alcohol. Tastes of rice, pear, apple skin, clove cigarette, light perfume, and hints of alcohol. Flavors are subdued and a touch flat.
