It's like sniffing a freshly opened box of Belgian cocoa. Absolutely amazing. The cocoa shows a little more tartness in the mouth due to the hops. The only criticism is a slightly watery palate.

Tap (Captain Melville). Black with a tan head that's small but lasts really well. Aroma of spiced licorice, molasses. Too much licorice for me. Spices are Sz. pepper, anise, smoked chile. Very smooth with bread, mocha, smoky roast. Initially gentle chile towards the end builds a bit. Nice beer, additions not over the top and nicely integrated.

On tap at Kowloon Taproom. Pours dark brown. Nuts, coffee, little astringent red fruit stuff, smoke to the point of a slight ash flavour. Hard to say no to after walking past so many chestnut carts and it really delivers. Might have to try the actual chestnuts now...

330ml bottle. Pours black. Aroma is gorgeous, with that unique perfumed peppercorn stuff obvious the moment the bottle was opened. Aromatic peppercorn, smoke, caramel, toast, slight umami seaweed thing. Real interesting and real tasty.
