Newgrass Brewing Company resides in heart of what many people know as the “City of Pleasant Living,” otherwise known as Shelby, North Carolina. We draw on our farmland surroundings, traditions and local heroes for inspiration while striving to maintain our own unique and progressive brewing concepts.

Just as the “newgrass” music genre was a progressive take on a very traditional style of music in bluegrass, Newgrass Brewing Company strives to do the exact same by blending renditions of traditional styles with deconstructed and reinterpreted progressive brews that have no borders.

Draft at Common Market. Nearly opaque brown color, small tan head. Aroma of chili and subtle cocoa. Taste is pure peppers. Heat dominates all.

Draft at The Hop Shop. Opaque dark brown color tan head. Roasty cocoa aroma. Taste has light spice, roast, cranberry enters only at the finish. Very tasty beer but the saison characteristics are hidden.

Draft at Salud. Hazy straw color, fluffy white head with delicate lacing. Aroma of dusty cobwebs and attic corners. Taste is dusty peppery straw with subtle fruit in the background. Very tasty.

Sample at Foggy Mountain Brew Pub. Brown pour with a medium foamy beige head that diminishes steadily to a film. Small patches of lace. Roast malt, caramel and a touch of hops in the nose. Light body with flavors of roasted malt, toffee and a bit of earthy hop. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at Sour Barn Bash 2016. Cloudy deep reddish amber color, pink head. Nice berry aroma with a touch of lemon. taste is tart berries. Tasty and refreshing.
